It's tough to bash on a guy after not even a full quarter of football, but things quite honestly could not have gone much worse for Drew Lock in the preseason opener. The former second-round pick had some people believing he could push Daniel Jones for the QB1 job this offseason, but that's no longer the case for the NY Giants.
This is Jones' team and that much was made even more clear after seeing Lock for the first time at MetLife Stadium. No. 2 started this one, but he couldn't get a single thing going on offense. Twice he missed rookie wideout Malik Nabers open downfield. His night was made even worse when he tried to force a pass to Isaiah Hodgins, which was intercepted and returned 20 yards.

A Drew Lock interception vs. Detroit was downright atrocious
It was 3rd-and-9, so Lock was just trying to make something happen. However, this is a ball he's going to want back and one that head man Brian Daboll is never going to want him to try and force. That INT led to a 53-yard Lions field goal.
Jones was given the night off, so it was Lock's time to shine. However, his performance early on matched the weather in East Rutherford - gloomy. The rain probably didn't help the NY signal-caller, but he left much to be desired and that throw is one that's going to have people shaking their heads for a little while. He's getting ripped on social media for it too:

The WRs are getting open but drew lock is struggling. Giants might have to keep DeVito ππΏπ₯€

drew lock is a high school qb at best.

Is it too late to cut Drew Lock? #NYG

It's the preseason, so this is the time to get the poor plays out of the way. Lock, who unfortunately left the game early due to an injury, is set to be the QB2 behind Danny Dimes this campaign, with Tommy DeVito expected to either be the QB3, or potentially audition for a backup job elsewhere.
Should anything happen to Jones, it will be Lock to lead the offense in the regular season. He's going to have to show us something much better throughout the rest of the preseason compared to what he showcased vs. Detroit.
