There's no question that undrafted free agents are easy guys to root for. The NY Giants are quite familiar with these guys turning out to be studs for them once the regular season arrives. While no one is going to compare Elijah Chatman to Victor Cruz, you can't deny the fact that the rookie defensive tackle has made a huge name for himself this summer.

And now it's looking like a certainty that he'll be around for when Week 1 gets here too. With the Giants and Jets facing off in the preseason finale, Chatman was given the night off with the majority of the Big Blue starters. This tells us that Chatman is a lock to make the 53-man roster and he has nothing to worry about with cut day coming on Aug. 27.

NY Giants DT Elijah Chatman has been a great story for Brian Daboll

Chatman has been a monster for the Giants throughout camp and the preseason. With the injuries up front for NY, Chatman was put in a great position to make this team due to a lack of depth, but few can argue that he was likely going to stick around this fall regardless. He did everything the staff asked him to do and he was a playmaker when on the field.

In the first preseason game, he looked quite strong going up against the Detroit Lions. Then in the preseason Week 2 loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, Chatman had the play of the day. Matter of fact, it might have been one of the best plays of the preseason, as he flew down the field to bring down a Houston RB. Seriously, this kind of speed for a big fella?

Coming out of SMU, Chatman went undrafted and had a tryout with the Seahawks before he ended up signing with the Giants. He brought his hard hat to work every single day and it looks like it will land him a job this season with Big Blue. Chatman was unknown just a few months ago, but that won't be the case for him in New York and New Jersey the rest of the campaign.
