4 teams the NY Giants have the best record against in NFL history
Washington Commanders
The Giants have defeated Washington more than any other opponent in the NFL. In 180 games, the G-Men hold a 105-70-5 lead over the Commanders. The series dates back to Oct. 9, 1932, when the previously known Boston Braves defeated Big Blue 14-6.
The reason New York and Washington have faced each other more than most teams is because they are divisional rivals. Both have been members of the NFC East since 1970. The Giants replaced the New Orleans Saints as the fourth team in the division to join the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles.
The annual Washington - New York regular season games are always a treat for NFL fans, and over the years, so many memories have come out of this rivalry. For example, the Monday Night Football contest in 1985 when Lawrence Taylor sacked Joe Theisman and effectively ended his professional career.
Another memorable moment between both teams came on Nov. 27, 1966, when the Giants and Redskins participated in the highest combined score (113 points) in a single game in league history. Both teams combined for 16 touchdowns and Washington won 72-41.
Lastly, a heartbreaking loss for the Redskins on Oct. 21, 2012, when Eli Manning threw a 77-yard touchdown to Victor Cruz with a 1:13 remaining in regulation to put the Giants up 27-23. Robert Griffin III would then try to put a drive together before Santana Moss fumbled on the 43-yard line and Big Blue would go on to win in dramatic fashion.
The Giants and Commanders will renew this historic rivalry this upcoming season on Week 7 at MetLife Stadium and Week 11 at FedEx Field in Washington, D.C. The key will be to crack a talented Washington defense led by defensive end Chase Young; however, with Big Blue's new offensive weapons, fans should be excited about these upcoming matchups.
