This is the time of year where dreams are shattered for youngsters across the country. The NY Giants have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to trim the roster down to 53. Unfotunately for wide receivers Collin Johnson and Bryce Ford-Wheaton, their names won't be on the final list.

On Sunday, it was announced that the G-Men has released Johnson, while head man Brian Daboll revealed that Bryce Ford-Wheaton suffered a torn ACL in the preseason finale against the Jets. With that, Ford-Wheaton has been put on Injured Reserve - meaning his 2023 campaign is over before it could even get started.

Giants fans feel terrible for both Collin Johnson and Bryce Ford-Wheaton

Starting with Johnson, the big-bodied wideout just couldn't catch a break with Big Blue. Last season, he suffered a torn Achilles after looking like a stud throughout training camp. He worked his tail off in his rehab and was turning heads early on during camp this summer too.

However, he suffered a knee injury during the preseason and his hopes of making the roster took a massive hit with that news. Daboll had nothing but good things to say about Johnson, but also said that there are other receivers ahead of him that Big Blue will be keeping in town:

Ford-Wheaton, a 6-4, 220-pounder, hadn't impressed the way people were hoping for, but the coaches love his potential and he was making a difference on special teams. He went down with his serious knee injury early on during the preseason finale against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.

Had Ford-Wheaton not torn his ACL, there's a strong chance he would have made the roster. However, just like Johnson at this point last year, a major injury has gotten in the way of that happening. This is a bummer for Ford-Wheaton, but he's still a rookie and the comeback trail will be a motivating one for him.
