Just terrible luck for the youngster.

This sucks. There's really no other way to put it. Injuries happen every summer in the preseason and the NY Giants are getting bit by the bug of late. In the preseason loss to the Houston Texans, defensive lineman Ryder Anderson went down in the middle of the action.

The third-year lineman, who signed with the Giants after not hearing his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft, suffered a hamstring injury. Now, we know said hamstring injury is costing him a shot at making the 53-man roster. The Giants have cut the 6-6, 280-pounder ahead of the preseason finale against the Jets. You've got to feel for this kid.

The NY Giants have released rising DL Ryder Anderson due to a hamstring injury

Anderson appeared to have a legitimate shot at sticking around for Week 1, especially after general manager Joe Schoen traded veteran Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys. Anderson and Elijah Chatman had seen their stock rise in recent weeks, but things just weren't meant to be here.

Over the past two seasons with Big Blue, Anderson ended up appearing in seven games, with two starts. He posted eight total tackles and two sacks. With DL depth being a bit of a concern, you've got to assume Schoen will be following other teams' cuts closely, as some veteran help is going to be needed.

NY did bring in Kyler Baugh for a workout, signing him shortly after. In addition, inside linebacker Trey Kiser was signed, as the defense is depleted at the position. You can expect both Baugh and Kiser to see extensive action against the Jets in preseason Week 3, but neither guy should be around once the dance with the Vikings takes place.

Everyone is still waiting to hear about Micah McFadden, who was carted off the field with a hip injury at NRG Stadium. The addition of Kiser might hint that McFadden may be out of action for a few weeks. Will he be healthy enough to face Minnesota? We sure hope so.
