With all the moves that NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen made this offseason to improve the offense, it's hard not to be excited about the unit's potential. In the lone series against Carolina, Daniel Jones and Co. looked sensational.
The potential is there for Danny Dimes to be a major problem for opposing defenses in 2023, but it's all going to come down to how his pass-catchers perform. If you ask NY great Amani Toomer, a Super Bowl winner with the G-Men, fans shouldn't have much to worry about.
Toomer was at practice on Tuesday watching alongside The Athletic's Dan Duggan. Toomer looked on closely and saw the offense have another head-turning day, with Darren Waller dominating once again. All in all, Toomer indeed thinks the pass-catchers have a ton of potential to make '23 a memorable year.
Amani Toomer is ready to see the Giants offense put on a show in 2023
"“I think that they (Giants receivers) have a lot of talent. They have a lot of potential. I’m interested to see how (Jalin) Hyatt progresses. I want to see (Darius) Slayton, (Isaiah) Hodgins and (Parris) Campbell do well. But there’s a lot of work to be done on the finer points of being a receiver. I feel like they’re well on their way. They’ve got a good coach in (Mike) Groh. It’s an entirely different roster than last year. You have receivers that can make you think about somebody other than Saquon Barkley, especially with Waller in the mix.”"Amani Toomer via Dan Duggan
With Jalin Hyatt in particular, his speed has the Big Blue supporters fired up about his ability to open up the field. We saw that in the preseason win over the Panthers, as he left a defensive back in the dust with a fantastic route. Props to Tyrod Taylor for delivering a perfect ball for the 33-yard score too.
As for Waller, come on, the veteran tight end has been a total beast for the Giants this summer. He finished with three receptions and 30 yards on four targets last Friday night. He and Jones have fantastic chemistry already, which Toomer is a fan of.
As strong as the offense has looked over the past month or so, none of that will matter once kickoff of the regular season gets here. The Giants will need to put everything together and record a great showing against a strong Dallas defense come Week 1. Toomer has faith they'll be able to do so.
