If you're thinking about how the NY Giants will handle the quarterbacks room in 2025 already, you're not the only one. Daniel Jones has looked solid for the G-Men over the past three games, but the belief is that he's still not the franchise QB for this team. Because of this, it's looking likely that Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen will bring in their own signal-caller via the NFL Draft.
In addition to that new young QB, though, a veteran will be needed. Jones (likely) will be released, while Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito will be out of contract once the season wraps up. A veteran will be needed to help bring a rookie along/push for the starting job.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report thinks it would be wise for the Giants to start thinking about things early and pull off a trade. The player they have in mind? That'd be Zach Wilson. Well, we don't feel great about this idea.
Zach Wilson mentioned as a potential trade target for the NY Giants
"The New York Giants could be interested in the 25-year-old as a potential long-term developmental project. Daniel Jones had his first impressive game in over a year in Week 3, but his body of work since the start of the 2023 season (2-7 record, 6 TDs, 8 INTs) still leaves much to be desired. The Giants can release Jones in the spring with a post-June 1 designation in the offseason and save $30.5 million in 2025 cap space."Kristopher Knox
Wilson was once considered a generational talent, which is why the Jets used a first-round pick on him. However, the former No. 2 overall pick never lived up to the hype and his play was frustrating to watch. He's now a backup for the Broncos. A return to East Rutherford would be underwhelming to the max.
With the money this team can save by cutting Jones, yes, it'd be a surprise if he's back next season. Jones needed to be close to perfect this year to prove he's worth his high salary and cap hit, but that hasn't been the case with NY at 1-3 entering a Week 5 clash with the Seahawks.
New quarterbacks will surely be on their way to the team next offseason, but come on, Schoen and Daboll can't do better than Wilson? We get where BR's Kristopher Knox is coming from with Wilson and his potential, especially on a cheap deal, but this is not the kind of move the long-suffering NY fanbase is going to want to see before the trade deadline.
