Things seem to be going from bad to worse for NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll following the Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. The Giants, to put it simple, were a major disappointment to open the season, suffering a 28-6 defeat. Unfortunately, linebacker Carter Coughlin went down with an injury and we may not see him again this campaign.

According to ESPN insiderJordan Raanan, Coughlin went down with what his sources are telling him was a torn pectoral muscle. Per Raanan, Coughlin will undergo further examination, but the team is fearing the worst. If that muscle injury is confirmed, he'll indeed probably be lost for the rest of the year. Just brutal news:

NY Giants linebacker Carter Coughlin is expected to be lost for the season

Coughlin was a 2020 seventh-round draft pick by the Giants, He re-signed with the team on a one-year contract this past offseason. He's not known as being a playmaker on defense, but he's been a standout for the Big Blue special teams. That's why NY kept him around.

Over the previous four seasons, Coughlin appeared in 55 games. He then of course suited up for the loss to the Vikings, but his day was cut short due to the serious injury. Coughlin was a depth piece for inside linebacker, but losing him will certainly be a bummer for special teams coach Michael Ghobrial.

It just seems like nothing positive has come out from the defeat to Minnesota. Things have gotten so bad, fans were spotted not only burning Daniel Jones' jersey, but they were also waiting outside the stadium for a while to rip Jones on his way out. That's over the top.

Now, the team will try and flush this loss and shift their focus to the Washington Commanders for Week 2. The morale can't be too high right now. Coughlin of course won't be able to make an impact vs. NY's NFC East rival and we shouldn't expect him to be back on the field until 2025.
