5 most overrated NY Giants NFC East rivals entering 2023
The NFC East may be arguably the best division in football. However, this does not mean these teams are safe from having players whose names speak more for them than their level of play. These guys may still be good players, but with the way the media and fans talk about them, you'd think they're superstars when they simply aren't.
These five players simply get way more hype than they should. Yes, they contribute to winning teams for the most part. but we can't sit here and act as if they're as good as the media would want you to think they are. Forgive us, but we're not too worried for these players for when they face the NY Giants this campaign.
5. Cowboys WR Michael Gallup
It's worth noting that 2022 was Michael Gallup's first season coming back from a torn ACL. However, in the 14 games he played in, he was far from good. Considering that he also signed a five-year, $57 million contract, the Cowboys definitely expected better out of the 27-year-old wideout. Now, entering 2023, there's a chance that Gallup will see even fewer targets as the Cowboys recently traded for Brandin Cooks.
Gallup managed to put together a couple of solid seasons. However, for how much money he's making, he's far overpaid. It may not all be his fault, but catching 39 passes on 74 targets for 424 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games if far from ideal. Maybe he can prove us wrong in 2023, but it's doubtful he does enough to be worth his contract.
Ceedee Lamb and Cooks will likely see more targets than Gallup and for him to be worth making $11.5 million every season, he needs to be consistently putting up 800+ yards and it's hard to see that considering the circumstances. Not only are there better receivers ahead of him, but considering how poor of a season Dak Prescott had in 2022, things could get rough if he has a repeat year.
This is just another case of a solid receiver getting paid and talked about like a star. Gallup is a fine player and that's just okay. However, it's time for fans to realize that and stop fantasizing about him becoming some sort of superstar player.
