This didn't take long. NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is in the middle of his comeback tour, but plenty of people haven't liked the first act and they are demanding a refund for their tickets, proverbialy speaking that is.
Jones has been far too up and down throughout the first six practices of camp. On one play, he'll hit Malik Nabers or Jalin Hyatt with a total dime of a throw. On the next, he might underthrow a wideout by about five yards. Brian Daboll looks like he's starting to lose patience with the rough play of the offense.
Could this lead to Drew Lock potentially getting more action with the starting unit? Thus far, it's been Jones running with the 1s, but a recent post from SNY's Connor Hughes sure has people talking about Lock potentially getting some work in with Nabers and Co. Plenty of Big Blue supporters want to see it happen too:
Giants fans are quite frustrated with the poor play of Daniel Jones
It's important to note that Hughes isn't calling for Jones to hit the bench and Lock to take all the work during 11-on-11 action. However, Jones' inconsistency has been disappointing to see, even though this is his first extended practice time since returning from his torn ACL.
Rather, Hughes is leaving the door open for Lock to start to see some action as QB1 in practice should Jones continues to be up and down. Hey, this isn't an overreaction in our opinion. Lock was brought in to be a reliable backup, but if Jones can't get the job done, there's a QB with plenty of experience sitting behind him.
The Giants have a new-look offensive line and Nabers to help Jones live up to his $160 million contract. However, Daboll, coming off a 6-11 season, isn't going to tolerate below-average play from his signal-caller.
Jones needs to step it up and get into a groove. We're not calling for Lock to take over right now either, but if Danny Dimes doesn't up his play, Daboll is going to have a tough decision to make.
