NY Giants should try and sign recently-cut Lions OT right now

The NY Giants are in fantastic shape when it comes to offensive tackles of the future, as Andrew Thomas is on the left and fellow former first-round pick Evan Neal is on the right. Things are looking bright, especially with Thomas coming off his Second Team All-Pro campaign.

However, no one can argue that depth is still needed. Throughout the offseason, the Giants backups looked rough. Tyre Phillips was surprisingly cut on Tuesday morning, while it's up in the air what will happen with Matt Peart. From our chair, he played himself off the 53-man roster with his sluggish showing vs. the Jets on Saturday night.

So, with cuts being recorded left and right across the league, plenty of hosses are being made available for teams to go after. In Detroit, the Lions decided to part ways with UDFA offensive tackle Connor Galvin. Schoen needs to jump on the horn ASAP and bring him to MetLife.

Galvin, a 6-7, 300-pounder out of Baylor, is coming off a fantastic preseason for the Lions. Plenty of experts thought he had a real chance of making the 53-man roster, but the Lions, per Jordan Schultz, cut the youngster in hopes of keeping him on the practice squad.

With how strong he looked over the past month, though, it would be a surprise if another team doesn't come in to try and ink the big-bodied lineman. For years now, depth has been a major issue for the G-Men. We saw just how rough things were for the offense when the starters weren't out on the field from start to finish in the preseason.

No one would expect Galvin to step in and replace Thomas or Neal, but he is playing with confidence and would be an upgrade from what we've seen in the past three weeks. He wouldn't be expensive either, which would be another reason to try to get him to town.
