Prized NY Giants draft pick dealing with minor injury issue at training camp
It's still early on in camp. This is something a lot of NY Giants fans are going to keep repeating to themselves, as things have been far from perfect early on. First, Jermaine Eluemunor suffered an injury, which thankfully isn't serious.
For Day 2 of practice, though, there's a bit of worry surrounding second-round pick Tyler Nubin. The promising safety has been held out of practice after he was cramping up on Day 1. This comes after he spent most of his time with the 2s to open things up. Plain and simple, this is not what a lot of people were expecting.
NY Giants safety Tyler Nubin was held out of practice due to cramps
Is it too early to start overreacting? Certainly. At the same time, however, there's a ton of pressure on Nubin to play beyond his years in 2024. The Giants didn't break the bank to keep Xavier McKinney in town, as he signed a $68 million deal with the Packers in free agency.
Giants fans were looking out for a potential Justin Simmons signing to happen, but Joe Schoen and Co. opted to invest money elsewhere and take Nubin in Day 2 of the NFL Draft. He was widely considered the top-rated safety for his class.
As for Simmons, he remains to be unsigned. Could a move to New Jersey end up going down for him? It's hard to say, but first, we want to see Nubin, a Minnesota product, to show us what he can do going up against the NY aerial attack.
The first two days of camp have been underwhelming for him, especially with this latest minor injury news arriving. It could be one of those things where Nubin is getting used to NFL speed after a long offseason. At the same time, we need to see the talented defensive back make a splash over the next few weeks before the preseason arrives.
