All things considered, things could have gone a lot worse for the young signal-caller. When it was announced that the NY Giants were signing Nathan Rourke to a new deal, the expectation was that he was going to be a camp body and nothing more.

Could he have made things interesting for Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock? Sure, but he didn't and the Giants decided to part ways with him in late July. After that, Rourke put the pen to paper with the Falcons, but a rough showing in the preseason led to his release there too.

Don't feel too bad for him, however. According to Pro Football Talk, Rourke has returned home to Canada and signed with the BC Lions, who are hoping he can put on a show now that he's going to be back in the CFL. How confident are the Lions that this will happen? They've given him a deal that will pay him a prorated amount for this season, but also around $600,000 for both 2025 and 2026. With this move, he's now the highest-paid player in the league up north:

Rourke is now back where his career started in British Columbia. Rourke spent two seasons there before signing with the Jaguars. He then landed deals with the Patriots, Giants and Falcons, though he's never made an appearance in a regular season game.

When Giants backup signal-caller Lock went down in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, there was some speculation that perhaps Rourke would be brought back to East Rutherford for depth purposes. Instead, Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen have been set in sticking with the current QBs room.

Against the Jets, the expectation - for now- is that DeVito will get the start and Lock will serve as the emergency QB option. Plenty of fans are calling for Daniel Jones to play the first quarter so he can try and build more chemistry with his receivers ahead of Week 1, but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. As for Rourke, he can enjoy this new contract, which is a historic one for him.
