Refs gifted the Jets a pick-six against the NY Giants with bogus missed call

You know it's almost September when awful, inexcusable mistakes from the officials are on full display in the preseason. On Saturday night, the NY Giants and Jets are in action, with Big Blue getting no help from the guys in stripes. The same can't be said for Aaron Rodgers and Co.

In the first quarter of the showdown at MetLife Stadium, with the Jets up 7-0, Tommy DeVito tried to hit David Sills, but Brandin Echols came away with an interception and took the ball back to the house 67 yards for a touchdown.

However, the replay clearly showed that Sills made contact with Echols' foot. The Jets offense saw this too and they trotted back out onto the field. The refs somehow saw something different and said the touchdown would stand. Talk about a complete and total joke:

Brandon Echols intercepted NY Giants QB Tommy DeVito and took it back 67 yards

Come on. We get that this is the preseason and that this doesn't really matter, but there are guys playing for jobs right now. For the Jets to be given a free six points on that touchdown should never happen.

At the same time, we've got to call out Sills a bit here too. He ran a terrible route and basically gave up on trying to make a play for his quarterback. DeVito led his receiver a bit, hoping he'd make a jump on the ball. That never happened. DeVito then had to try and chase down Echols to prevent the score, but he was unable to get the job done in that department.

With the Giants playing their backups against the Jets starters, you had to figure it would be a rough start to the game for the guys in blue. At the same time, no one ever wants to see the officiating crew make a mistake like this. They've got to be better moving forward.
