Splash signing isn't living up to the hype just yet for the NY Giants

Bobby Okereke has had an up-and-down season thus far for Big Blue

When the NY Giants signed stud linebacker Bobby Okereke to his four-year, $40 million deal, plenty of people were fired up. Hey, they still are. The inside linebacker play for the Giants in recent years has rivaled the poor play of the offensive line. Yeah, it's been pretty bad.

Through three games, Okereke has had plenty of great moments for Wink Martindale and Co., as he has 22 total tackles to his name, with 15 of them being solo. However, Okereke has also had some moments to forget.

This included his play in the 30-12 loss vs. the 49ers. Okereke was tied with Micah McFadden for the most missed tackles (three) on the night. In total, the Giants missed 16 tackles vs. San Francisco, which is unacceptable.

The NY Giants defense must clean things up vs. Seattle

Okereke had a disappointing showing vs. the 49ers, but come on, so did the rest of the defense. With that said, everyone, including the splash offseason signing, simply has to improve with a monster game vs. the Seahawks on the way Monday night.

We've said it before, but this is a must-win game for the Giants, especially with it taking place in primetime at MetLife Stadium. The next two games will be insanely tough contests vs. the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

The Giants will no doubt be underdogs for those games and plenty of people believe they'll go 0-2 in those showdowns. If the Giants don't bring their A-game and lose to the Seahawks, then they could end up starting the season 1-5 after the matchups with Miami and Buffalo.

That's why the Week 4 tilt is so important for Big Blue. Okereke needs to be one of the leaders for this defense and make sure he's flying around the field against the Hawks. The missed tackles must be a thing of the past and he has to be a sure-tackler against Seattle, a team with countless playmakers. We're confident Okereke will bounce back - he's just too good to make such silly mistakes.
