Tommy DeVito reportedly welches on small business, jacks up fee after Packers win
Say it ain't so, Tommy Cutlets! Despite the NY Giants suffering a disappointing 24-6 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, it doesn't take away from the fact that Tommy DeVito, an undrafted free agent, helped power this team to three consecutive wins before the Week 15 defeat.
During that winning streak, highlighted by the victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, DeVito became a hero across the country. However, it looks like the success on the gridiron is also driving up the price to have the New Jersey product make an appearance.
According to Darren Rovell, DeVito was supposed to meet fans at an Italian NJ restaurant on Tuesday. Originally, DeVito was asking $10,000, but per Rovell, the amount doubled after the MNF win and now the event is off:
Giants fans are not happy with Tommy DeVito after recent report on canceled event
This is a but of a bummer, as plenty of people were excited to meet the Don Bosco Prep product to talk about the incredible ride he's been on with the G-Men. However, it's not the best of looks for DeVito that he originally agreed to do things for $10,000, but then upped things so much after taking down Green Bay.
A quick look on social media shows that people are not happy about this, as plenty of Big Blue supporters are calling out the rookie quarterback for this latest move. The timing of Rovell's tweet couldn't have been worse too, as it came after DeVito and the G-Men laid an egg vs. New Orleans.
In the 24-6 loss, dropping the Giants to 5-9 on the year, DeVito completed 20-of-34 passes for 177 yards and no touchdowns. He was also sacked seven times, with the offensive line playing like trash from start to finish.
Brian Daboll has already said DeVito will start vs. the Eagles, but he's most definitely going to have to play much better if the Giants are going to have a prayer in stunning Philly. If DeVito struggles again, then the calls for Tyrod Taylor could return.
