On Day 2 of the NFL Draft, the NY Giants beefed up their secondary in the second and third rounds with the additions of Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin and Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips. After the departure of safety Xavier McKinney, who signed with the Green Bay Packers this offseason, we knew Joe Schoen would prioritize replacing the 2020 second-round pick.

Big Blue fans can be ecstatic about the young core the team is building within the secondary, especially with last year's first-round pick, Deonte Banks, who stepped up at defensive back last season. One player Giants fans should be fired up about is Phillips, who already has a strong connection with one of his new teammates.

The Giants' third-round pick played at Kentucky with Big Blue wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson in 2021, and now the duo will be reunited in New York. While Robinson and Phillips will be on different sides of the field, seeing them go up against each other in practice and share a sideline again will be exciting for Giants fans to watch next season. It's something Robinson is fired up about too:

Wan'Dale Robinson loved the Giants picking Andru Phillips in the third round

After the Giants called Phillips and told him he would join the team, Robinson quickly contacted his former teammate, posting the hilarious tweet above, while also connecting with him on FaceTime. The wide receiver's reaction to the draft pick was pretty dang awesome. Robinson and Phillips used to battle it out in practice at Kentucky and the same will be coming in East Rutherford.

This goes back to March 28, when Phillips joined Good Morning Football, and former cornerback Jason McCourty asked the Kentucky defensive back which wide receivers he was most excited to face in the NFL. Phillips said he is excited about going up against guys like Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase, but that Robinson is also a guy he wants to try and lock down.

While they won't be on the opposite side of the field on Sundays moving forward, Robinson and Phillips can still continue their rivalry during the week. It's all fun and games, but you know the trash talk among the new Giants teammates will be entertaining from start to finish in 2024.
