3 worst calls by refs in frustrating NY Giants loss to the 49ers

2. Letting Trent Williams get away with a Mike Tyson-type haymaker

As for No. 2 on our list, San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams should be thanking his lucky stars that he was able to take the field for the second half. Right before the break, Williams went at it with Giants defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson. The two were flagged, but Williams got away with a cheap shot. This was totally over the line:

Yup, the cameras caught Williams throwing a right hook at Robinson's helmet. As Ari Meirov noted, this is an ejection just about every time it happens. Williams was caught red-handed in this case, but the officials acted like it never happened. Coach Dabes saw how everything went down and he was waiting for the All-Pro OT to get tossed.

That didn't happen, however. The two had to be separated and then they jogged off the field. Not having Williams out there for the final 30 minutes of action would have made a major difference. We're not saying that the Giants would have won the game if Williams had gotten ejected, but this kind of a missed call by the refs is inexcusable. Williams better get fined for this behavior. There's no room in the NFL for this trash.
