Potential bargain free agents Giants could start thinking about shopping for now
By Matt Sidney
The New York Giants will have plenty of money to address several needs this offseason (Spotrac has the G-Men opening up $63.5 million to spend). After a miserable 2024 season, the New York Giants find themselves in desperate need of a roster overhaul.
General Manager Joe Schoen will have considerable flexibility in 2025, presenting an opportunity for the Giants to make some strategic moves in free agency. Although Schoen has been cautious about investing in his own free agents, this approach hasn’t turned out well for the Giants.
While splashy signings might grab headlines, the Giants can also focus on savvy, under-the-radar deals to address key weaknesses across their roster. With Schoen looking to build a more competitive team, these bargain free agents could offer solid value without breaking the bank.
Five under-the-radar free agents the Giants could sign in 2025
Names appear in alphabetical order.
Aaron Jones, RB
At 30 years old, Aaron Jones still has plenty to offer as a veteran running back. Despite spending much of 2024 adjusting to a new role with the Minnesota Vikings, Jones has been productive, posting 692 rushing yards and averaging 4.4 yards per carry. The Giants’ backfield could use an experienced, dynamic presence like Jones to complement their younger options and provide some stability alongside fifth-round rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Alaric Jackson, OT
Versatility and reliability define Alaric Jackson’s game. The 26-year-old lineman has stepped up for the Rams as their starting left tackle after spending time at guard earlier in his career. His ability to fill multiple roles on the offensive line makes him an attractive target for a Giants team looking to improve its protection upfront. Adding Jackson would solidify depth and provide flexibility for an offensive line that has struggled with consistency.
B.J. Hill, DT
A familiar face for Giants fans, B.J. Hill has quietly been a standout for the Bengals since leaving New York in 2021. At 29, Hill brings versatility as a defensive lineman who can both rush the passer and stop the run. The Giants’ defensive front could benefit greatly from Hill’s ability to play multiple roles, especially with Dexter Lawrence anchoring the middle. Hill’s familiarity with the franchise adds another layer of appeal.
Diontae Johnson, WR
While his production dipped following a midseason trade to the Baltimore Ravens, Diontae Johnson remains an intriguing free-agent target. The 28-year-old wide receiver has a knack for getting open and making plays, even in less-than-ideal situations. Johnson could come in and form a dynamic trio alongside rookie sensation Malik Nabers and veteran Darius Slayton.
Nick Chubb, RB
Recovering from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2023, Nick Chubb has struggled to regain his form behind a poor Browns offensive line. However, the 29-year-old is just a year removed from being one of the NFL’s elite rushers. A one-year, incentive-laden deal could make Chubb a low-risk, high-reward option for the Giants as they look to fill their ground game with more reliable options than Devin Singletary.
