Now that the New York Giants possess the No, 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, all fans want to see the Giants do is maintain that standing across the final month of the season. All fans remember when the Giants' meaningless Week 17 win over the Colts saw them squander their draft position last season.

It comes with bad memories for Giants fans, as Drew Lock came in and went absolutely bonkers with Malik Nabers, but that's the reason Big Blue didn't land Cam Ward. And no fan wants to see history repeat itself over the final month of the season, especially since the 2026 top pick is in high demand.

If they manage to stay atop the draft board, trade offers will flurry from quarterback-needy teams, and everyone knows the Giants need that draft capital. This has fans wanting to see the team do whatever it takes to lose, as WFAN's Tommy Lugauer pitched benching Jaxson Dart in order to tank.

WFAN radio host thinks the Russell Wilson signing could finally pay off

Loogy suggested that if the Giants really want to lose out, they shouldn't turn to Jameis Winston, but instead should bench the first-round rookie for Russell Wilson. Obviously, Mike Kafka wouldn't do that while he's coaching for his job, but you can't argue that Russ gives them the best chance to lose out.

The 10-time Pro Bowler might be a future Hall-of-Famer, but his three starts from earlier this season all but confirmed he's a shell of the player he once was. But even then, he's still a viable option, so intentionally starting him in order to tank games isn't the foolproof plan Lugauer thought it was.

Unfortunately for the G-Men, their schedule will get a lot easier over the next few weeks, as they play the Raiders, Commanders, Cowboys, and Vikings. None of those teams are great, so even if Wilson is the one starting, there's a real chance the Giants go 2-2 or 3-1 and fall down in the 2026 draft order.

However, what he didn't account for is the fact that the defense is still horrible without Shane Bowen, and the 22-year-old is throwing to a weak receiver room. But the real reason his pitch makes no sense because the entire reason Dart is starting is that Wilson was unwatchable as the starter.

The entire point of starting the Ole Miss product is to see what you have in him, and that shouldn't change because the team has nothing to play for. Yes, picking first and receiving a boatload of picks from the Jets or someone is ideal, but it shouldn't come at Dart's expense.
