Throughout his 13 years in the NFL, Russell Wilson has played with a lot of good players and thrown to a lot of receivers during his time. Now that he’s with the New York Giants, he’s going to get plenty of chances to throw to a new receiver that many consider to be a top talent in the league.

Enter Malik Nabers.

It didn’t take long for the future Hall of Fame quarterback to find the Giants' number one receiver on the first day of training camp. It’s something many are expecting to happen often once the calendar flips over to September, so if the first day of camp was a preview of what's to come, then the fans should be very excited.

After camp concluded, Wilson spoke to the media about his new favorite target and showered him with praise:

Russell Wilson absolutely loves Malik Nabers

Having lockers right next to each other is certainly a great way for a quarterback and wide receiver to get even further acquainted with one another. It can also help if they need to address anything with each other that happens on the field.

Nabers had one of the best seasons for a Giants receiver in quite some time last season. He had 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Nabers was the first NY receiver to hit 1,000 yards since Odell Beckham Jr. did it back in 2018. He also finished fifth in the 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year voting, and did it all with a rather inadequate quarterback room.

That quarterback room is why Joe Schoen signed Wilson to a one-year deal in free agency, hoping he can tap into the success he’s had in the past. Last season, Wilson threw 16 touchdown passes and went 6-5 in his 11 starts with the Steelers, helping lead them to the AFC Wild Card Round. The G-Men are hopeful he can bring some of that early-season magic from Pittsburgh — along with the success he had in Seattle — to East Rutherford.

Some see Wilson’s stop with the Giants as his last chance to remain a starting quarterback in the league. Others think he’s here to help save Brian Daboll’s job. Either way, it would be ideal for Wilson to have a strong season — not only to keep Daboll employed, but to extend his own career as an NFL starter. Having a rising star like Nabers, who’s only getting better, certainly helps his case.

For the sake of the Giants’ 2025 season, seeing Wilson and Nabers build early chemistry feels like a promising sign — and it could be a preview of good things to come when the games start to matter.
