The New York Giants are full steam ahead with the Jaxson Dart express train, and they are only in that position after being forced to throw him into the lineup after veteran Russell Wilson put together even more evidence that suggests he is not a starting quarterback anymore.
Despite a rough season with the Giants that ended as quickly as it began following a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, Wilson isn't down for the count just yet. In fact, he is eyeing another year of competing for a role as a team's Week 1 starter.
Wilson said that he is eyeing another season in the NFL in 2026, saying that his 400-yard performance in a narrow loss against the Dallas Cowboys was enough to convince teams around the league that he still has some juice left in the tank.
While the spirit is admirable, and Wilson may end up getting some looks from backup-needy teams out there, his overall body of work in the last few years should lead many to the conclusion that he is done as a starting quarterback in this league.

Wilson didn't even last a month as the starter in New York. Not only was he replaced by a quarterback in Dart that many assumed would need tons of developmental time before being ready for primetime, but he was significantly outperformed by said youngster.
At this point, Wilson has nothing left to play for except a paycheck. When looking at his career, Wilson should feel content in the fact that his full body of work as a third-round pick may be enough to push him into the hallowed halls of the Hall of Fame one day.
Wilson won a Super Bowl and came one yard away from winning two. With 47,000 passing yards, 384 total touchdowns between rushing scores and passing scores, and 10 Pro Bowls to his name, Wilson's legacy as one of the best quarterbacks of his era is already stamped.
The dismount, however, has not been as smooth as Wilson would have liked, and that has been punctuated by his failures to win playoff games for the Steelers and Giants. Wilson has clearly lost a step in the areas that made him great over the years, and that fact is not escaping a Giants fanbase who saw how clearly his skillset has declined.
