One of the most highly-anticipated matchups of the NFL season is upon us this week, as the NY Giants and Philadelphia Eagles will face off on Sunday afternoon. These games are normally hyped up, as it's a divisional rivalry between two historic franchises. However, this time around, there's an extra layer of beef that could turn some heads.
As we all know, former Giants running back Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles this offseason on a big contract. This caused many fans to feel betrayed and anger-based reactions swept social media once the move was announced.
Now, with both the Giants and Eagles underperforming, the two meet in a relatively high-stakes matchup in Week 7. Ahead of this game, Barkley took to the media to talk about how he thinks things will go. During his press conference, Barkley said he thinks NY fans are over things and he won't get booed. Sorry Saquon, but you're in for a reality check:
Saquon Barkley doesn't think NY Giants fans will boo him at MetLife
Barkley left the Giants after back-to-back seasons of the two sides failing to come together on a contract. Leaving New York seemed like the obvious choice last offseason, but for Barkley to choose the team's biggest rival felt like a stab in the back to some.
Lucky for Giants fans, the Eagles are a disaster right now compared to how good they were projected to be. While a 3-2 record isn't the worst, they've lost a pair of truly disastrous games and have played down to their competition every week regardless of how bad they are.
Now, in this Week 7 matchup, Barkley will be returning to MetLife for the first time since his departure, and the two teams will be duking it out in an attempt to save their seasons. Who knows how this game will go down, but one thing feels certain, Barkley will be booed.
He might think that's not going to be the case, but plenty of NY supporters have had this game circled on their calendars for quite some time. We don't wish Barkley any harm whatsoever and we actually want to see him do well on the field, just not twice a year when he plays the G-Men. Plenty of people in the stands in East Rutherford are surely going to let him have it once kickoff arrives, though.
