Week 6 began with the New York Giants going down to an immediate 7-0 deficit on Sunday Night Football in a home tilt against the Cincinnati Bengals. After a strong performance and a win over the Seattle Seahawks a week ago, the Giants came into this one with plenty of hope in a wide-open NFC East.
The Giants defense saw Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow engineer a touchdown drive early in the first quarter which ended in embarrassing fashion, as the veteran quarterback scampered 47 yards for a score while making every Giants fan second-guess what exactly defensive coordinator Shane Bowen was doing.
Offensively, New York came out without some of their starters in this one. Daniel Jones was down two primary weapons, which may or may not have attributed to another iffy prime time performance. Running back Devin Singletary was out which paved the way for rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. to get involved, heavily, for a second-straight week. It came in a 17-7 loss for Big Blue.
Meanwhile, another rookie was forced to sit this one out. Star wide receiver. Malik Nabers was inactive due to a concussion. This was Nabers' second game missed, in as many weeks, because of the injury.
Hoping for good news this coming week, Giants fans were actually given an unexpected bit of news on Nabers during the live broadcast on Sunday night. Late in the game, NBC's Mike Tirico tossed out a promising update on Nabers' status for the coming days.
As it turns out, it looks like Nabers should be good to go for Week 7 against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
Malik Nabers will be returning from injury for an important stretch
If Nabers indeed is able to return for Week 7 against Philadelphia, that will be excellent timing. The division still looks to be anyone's for the taking, with the Dallas Cowboys reeling, the Washington Commanders coming off a loss and the Eagles escaping with a narrow victory over the lowly Cleveland Browns.
After taking on the Eagles in a big NFC East showdown, the Giants will then travel to take on a tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense which will not be an easy task. They are going to need every possible weapon, offensively, to have a chance at beating T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick and company.
From there, the Giants will get set for yet another NFC East matchup as they take on Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. Somehow, some way, Washington is exciting and relevant this year. Well, actually, we know why. It's all on that rookie No. 2 overall pick. Daniels has been spectacular.
For the Giants, Nabers looks like he's returning just in time.
