Surprising Odell Beckham Jr. twist could push Giants toward unexpected move

The nostalgia factor is real with this one.

This just in: Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t done. And that’s straight from the source. The three-time Pro Bowler shut down viral retirement rumors on social media this week and made it abundantly clear he still plans on playing in 2025. Even at 32, OBJ doesn’t sound like someone ready to hang up the cleats, and there’s at least some reason to believe a New York Giants reunion could be on the table.

Beckham called out a fake report, falsely suggesting it was a retirement post. The post caught fire online, but OBJ was quick to respond with a short and to-the-point update: “Not done yet… thanks for hr concerns and have a blessed day.” That was followed by a more aggressive tone, telling people to “stop texting me happy retirement b4 u piss me off.”

While the public denial got the attention, what’s more important is that NFL Network's Tom Pelissero later confirmed Beckham is drawing interest and actively plans to sign with a team this season. If the G-Men are paying attention, they might want to consider giving him a call.

Giants should consider Odell Beckham Jr. reunion after retirement denial

It’s not hard to understand why a reunion would make some sense. For all the concerns about injury history, production drop-off, and everything else tied to the end of his first stint in New York, Beckham is still one of the most recognizable receivers in franchise history. He’s also... available. And at this point, the Giants aren’t exactly overflowing with reliable WR depth.

Malik Nabers is going to be the guy. That much is clear. But behind him, it’s a whole lot of solid role players and question marks. Wan’Dale Robinson is a good complementary piece. Darius Slayton is still around, but unproven. Jalin Hyatt might not make the roster. After that, it’s a depth chart filled with dart throws and situational targets.

If nothing else, the nostalgia factor would immediately make games more interesting, something that's escaped this team for years.

Beckham probably isn’t looking to be anyone’s WR1, 2, or 3 at this point, but if he wants to play, there’s a world where Joe Schoen makes the call. This could be a one-year, vet-min type of move to add a different energy to the locker room. The offense was unwatchable last year. Every bit helps.

Also, this would be a major PR boost for Schoen, whose reputation could also use every bit of help.

There’s also the optics of it. Fans are going to feel one way or the other — some will welcome the nostalgia, others will say let it go. But this would be about a team looking for cheap ways to fully lean into the nostalgia factor. Beckham, when healthy, still has hands. Still has experience. And still has something to prove after bouncing between four teams over the last five years.

It’s entirely possible this doesn’t happen. In fact, Giants insider Art Stapleton recently suggested both sides may be too far apart to seriously entertain a reunion. But Beckham says he’s ready to play. And if that’s true, New York might want to at least explore the idea.

The worst thing that could happen is you say no to something that actually could’ve worked.
