The New York Giants’ offense might have had a rough day in Tuesday's joint practice with the Jets, but not everybody fell victim to the defensive slugfest. One of the only players to look completely unfazed by a stifling Jets’ defense was Jaxson Dart, who, alongside fellow first-rounder Abdul Carter, is showing glimpses of superstardom in East Rutherford.

Following a strong debut performance last weekend, the first-round rookie was firing on all cylinders once again. Fresh off a154-yard passing performance in Orchard Park, continued to look every bit like New York’s future under center.

Yet his highlight of the afternoon came during red zone work, when he fired a back-shoulder dime to veteran wideout Zach Pascal, who delivered a spectacular one-hand catch, to net six points for the G-Men. As soon as the 22-year-old took the snap, he instantly diagnosed the coverage and ripped the throw with confidence to where only Pascal could haul it in.

Jaxson Dart’s throw was good, but Zach Pascal’s catch was even better

This was a classic example of “great throw, better catch”. He was drawing tight coverage from Jarrick Bernard-Converse, yet it didn’t matter. The former Ole Miss standout let it fly, and Pascal looked like Mr. Fantastic with the way he hauled it in one-handed.

Pascal, who was signed by Big Blue this offseason, has been pushing some breakout youngsters for a roster spot. The Old Dominion product was mainly relegated to a special teams role across his last two seasons in Arizona, but has been a contributor on offense before.

The 28-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career in Indianapolis, where he surpassed 600 receiving yards in both 2019 and 2020, combining for 10 touchdowns across the two seasons. He has over 2,000 career receiving yards on 167 receptions, so it’s clear he can be a reliable weapon when called upon.

This touchdown serves as a reminder as to why the Giants traded back into the first round to take Dart, Brian Daboll’s handpicked guy, due to his similarities to Josh Allen, and why the undrafted wideout has value in one of the NFL’s youngest receiver rooms.

All summer long, Dart has looked the part of an NFL quarterback. Reviews on the Utah native were polarizing coming out of Oxford, but he quickly silenced the skeptics with his mobility, pocket presence, and sheer arm talent.

He’s still a work in progress, though, and Dart is still adjusting to the NFL game, but the early returns suggest he’s a potential franchise cornerstone, giving fans a glimpse of an exciting future. For now, Russell Wilson is New York’s starter while he continues to develop, but if he keeps impressing like this, the All-SEC signal-caller might just force Daboll’s hand.
