A myriad of bombshell reports following the New York Giants' decision to fire head coach Brian Daboll speak to his downfall. But just in case that wasn't enough, the comments players have made since the team dismissed him only further highlight why this choice was made.
Giants second-year tight end Theo Johnson's recent choice of words certainly opened some eyes. Yet, he's not the only one, with running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. being the latest member of the club to weigh in.
Tracy shared his thoughts on the week of preparation leading up to Mike Kafka's first game as the Giants' interim head coach. Despite falling to the Green Bay Packers, the tailback alluded to the vibes under the latter being much more lively than they were with Daboll.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. may have given Giants fans the clearest reason for Brian Daboll firing
"That was kind of one of [Kafka's] things going into the week, was just leaving no doubt and just playing with a lot of energy," Tracy told reporters regarding the Giants' apparent increased effort against the Packers. "... The way we practiced last week was a little more energized."
The toxic work environment the Giants endured with Daboll at the helm ostensibly permeated the air at MetLife Stadium. It created a domino effect, which understandably took a toll on Tracy and the rest of the group. However, New York wasted no time putting the bad mojo behind them, which evidently wasn't a coincidence.
New York ratcheting up the intensity in Kafka's debut was by design. Tracy indicated that being more animated was a focal point of the former's message to the locker room entering their 27-20 loss to the Packers.
"Again, that's just based [on Kafka] and how he wanted things run in practice," Tracy said. "It carried over to the game. I think it was very evident just by the energy -- offense, defense, special teams -- that everyone had."
Where was this newfound spirit before Daboll's unceremonious exit? Better late than never, we suppose. Nevertheless, it took the G-Men over two months to compete with a greater purpose; a clear sign that Tracy and Co. were tuning him out.
