There's really no way to spin things, as the NY Giants were dealt a bit of a blow with the news that Kayvon Thibodeaux underwent wrist surgery. Now, there's a fear that he could end up missing 4-6 weeks, which is a major bummer for defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

Obviously, Brian Burns is going to have to step up as the lead pass-rusher for this team. Thankfully, he looked quite strong against the Seahawks. With Dexter Lawrence causing havoc on the inside, Azeez Ojulari will look to deliver too now that he's expected to start in place of the injured Thibodeaux. Behind Ojulari, however, there isn't a ton to work with in terms of depth.

Will the NY Giants sign a veteran pass-rusher with Kayvon Thibodeaux injured?

Taking a look at the depth chart on the team website, Boogie Basham is the only OLB/DE spotted. Outside of that, Tomon Fox and Benton Whitley are on the practice squad, so you've got to imagine at least one of them will be elevated to the 53-man roster to take on the Bengals for SNF.

You've got to feel bad for Thiboeaux as well. After a bit of a slow start to the season, he has done a 180 and played quite well in the trenches. He may only have two sacks on the season, but he has been doing great work at getting into the backfield to make life tough for quarterbacks.

It's hard to believe, especially with the 2-3 record, but the Giants quietly have worked their way to the top of the NFL with their 22 sacks. Thibodeaux, Burns and Lawrence are proving to be a great trio up front, while Ojulari and D.J. Davidson can't be forgotten.

With that said, Thibodeaux missing an extended period could not come at a worst time for the G-Men, especially with team morale a bit higher thanks to the upset win over the Seahawks. Losing Thibodeaux indeed will sting, but let's see if Schoen does something to lessen the blow.
