When the New York Giants announced they were keeping general manager Joe Schoen after firing head coach Brian Daboll on Monday, fans were understandably confused and frustrated. The partnership that was supposed to rebuild this franchise from the ground up completely cratered, yet only one of them got the axe.
Schoen’s been great at selling the idea he’s the adult in the room — the attention-to-detail, measured architect whose “process” shouldn’t be questioned because, technically, the roster’s gotten younger and more talented than when he arrived.
The problem is fans are over “technically.” The results on the field might suggest otherwise, and the organization feels more stuck than ever. Well, maybe not — thanks to rookie quarterback sensation Jaxson Dart, whose arrival in East Rutherford is the only thing stopping this season from being completely unwatchable.
He’s one of the only reasons to even remotely care about this team. And now, thanks to a conveniently timed behind-the-scenes draft-night clip, fans got a glimpse of how his selection actually came to life — and it’s not exactly the version of the story Schoen’s camp is eager to peddle:
“Nobody’s going to remember a 3rd rd pick if YOU’RE right.

YOU guys are convicted in him, YOU believe in him.”
Joe Schoen, with the cameras and mics rolling, made it extremely clear that Jaxson Dart was Brian Daboll’s pick.

“Nobody’s going to remember a 3rd-round pick if you're right. You guys are convicted in him, you believe in him, we did the process, we checked all the boxes, let's roll the dice."
Giants fans aren’t buying Joe Schoen’s act after the Jaxson Dart draft video
It doesn’t take a professional lip reader to figure out what’s going on here. Schoen was deferring to Daboll — not owning the pick, not pounding the table for Dart — defer, defer, defer.
That’s fine in the moment, but it’s a bad look now that he’s still employed while the guy who “rolled the dice” is out of a job. The video makes it hard to buy the idea that Schoen was the brilliant mastermind behind the pick that might’ve saved both of them.
Ownership can spin this as two separate evaluations all they want — GM stays, coach goes — but it’s hard not to see a front office that just blamed the symptoms while blatantly ignoring the cause.

Schoen’s the one who handed out the $160 million Daniel Jones contract. He’s the one who let Saquon Barkley walk to Philadelphia. He's the one letting Shane Bowen still run the defense. He’s the one who’s had four free agencies and drafts to upgrade the roster and has failed to do so.
The clip didn’t just make Daboll look more sympathetic — it exposed Schoen’s whole clean-hands routine for what it really is: a guy who plays it too safe until someone else gets the rug pulled from under them. Giants fans have been here before, and the ending never changes. Why is Joe Schoen still employed?
