New York Giants: Undefeated

Sure, it’s the preseason. But somehow the Giants are 3-0 and that’s gotta be better than being 0-3.

The Indianapolis Colts themselves, are now 0-2 on the preseason, maybe they’ll be able to tell Giants Nation how 0-3 feels next week… That said, you have to give it up to the Colts starters. For three quarters they blanked the Giants inside Lucas Oil Stadium. It happened.

26-0 was the score in the fourth quarter, and then, Corey Washington and the rest of the preseason GIANT depth heroes remembered that you actually want to score points in football games. Here’s how they put 27 points on the board in one quarter of play, but first your four GIANT TD’s were from:

  1. Kellen Davis
  2. Spencer Adkins
  3. Michael Cox
  4. Corey Washington (Does it again)

 New York Giants: Touchdowns

2nd and 3 at IND 3(10:21) (No Huddle, Shotgun) C.Painter pass short right to K.Davis for 3 yards, TOUCHDOWN. Penalty on IND-C.Anderson, Defensive Holding, declined. J.Brown extra point is GOOD, Center-Z.DeOssie, Holder-S.Weatherford.
1st and 10 at IND 6(10:10) (Run formation) P.Tanner left tackle to IND 3 for -3 yards (J.Anderson). FUMBLES (J.Anderson), RECOVERED by NYG-S.Adkins at IND 0. TOUCHDOWN. IND – Credit Tanner with -6 yards rushing. The Replay Official challenged the runner broke the plane ruling, and the play was Upheld.B.McManus extra point is GOOD, Center-Z.DeOssie, Holder-S.Weatherford.
1st and 2 at IND 2Michael Cox 2 Yd Run (Josh Brown Kick)
1st and 4 at IND 4(:59) (Shotgun) R.Nassib pass short right to C.Washington for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN. TWO-POINT CONVERSION ATTEMPT. R.Nassib pass to A.Robinson is incomplete. ATTEMPT FAILS.

Here is the rest of the play-by-play at the four letter, here.

Is anyone impressed by Corey Washington? The Giants are finding ways to get him in the end zone. Did you think Corey Washington was going to do it again? According to this piece from Newsday titled, Corey Washington does it again, even Corey himself, felt it coming:

"“I had a feeling,” he told Newsday shortly after hauling in his third game-winning touchdown reception in three weeks. “I was like: This is our time right here.”Washington may have an impressive three touchdown catches, but each has come in the fourth quarter against the backups to the backups. Before he can cement his place on the 53-man roster, he needs to show the Giants that he can perform against a higher level of competition.“That’s their choice,” Washington said of when he plays. “I would love to go up against the first and second team to show them that it don’t matter what number of the depth chart they are, I can still go out there and do the same thing I do.”"

New York Giants: Confidence

After being shut out for over three quarters, it might serve the New York Giants well to test Corey Washington’s confidence. The West Coast Offense scheme that OC Ben McAdoo is installing is about trust and timing. Regardless of the quarterback. If Washington is getting to his spots and believes that he will make the plays, give him an opportunity. Being shut out is an embarrassment, perhaps the Giants should reward the winning effort by giving these roster bubble guys some run with the starters.

More from NY Giants News

For Giants players like: Wells, Adkins, Cox and especially Washington… they’ve earned the right to platform their skills. The New York Giants still have two more preseason games to field an effective offense against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, September 8th. Getting this comeback preseason win was just the kind of confidence boost a team needs to build the chemistry it takes to run a successful WCO in the NFL.

Next week, it will be interesting to see if the Giants find out if Corey Washington can find some of that same winning magic with Eli Manning earlier in the game. However, for now Giants Nation… your team is 3-0. How “lucky” is that after the awful performance by the starters against a pretty good football team?
