Dinner With The New York Giants: The Offensive Line

There is a lot going on in Giants Nation as we get revved up for the start of the first organized team activities. There is much intrigue about the offensive line going into the first OTA. This is because Will Beatty, the New York Giants left tackle was injured and will be out 5-6 months. There are tons of great articles around the internet about the Giants. Here are some of the top Giants stories from around the web as you get ready for a tasty dinner.

W2W4: Giants begin OTAs this week by Dan Graziano (ESPN)

"Specifically, everyone will want to know who gets the first crack at left tackle. Will it be Justin Pugh, who has started at right tackle the past two seasons? Will it be 21-year-old rookie Ereck Flowers, who was the No. 9 pick in the draft just a few weeks ago? Will it end up having to be someone not on the roster yet? And how will this affect things along the rest of the line? There’s no hitting or pads in these practices, but the teams can line up for 11-on-11 drills that allow the coaches to install and practice specific schemes and plays. We will get some sense of how they view their options on the line."

Rookie Ereck Flowers getting first-team LT reps in Giants OTAs by Dan Graziano (ESPN)

"Flowers just turned 21 last month, and prior to the draft most evaluations had him as a project who could help right away as a run-blocker on the right side but would need a lot of work and refinement before he could be a starting NFL left tackle. So obviously, there’s a chance Flowers won’t be able to handle the role right away and they’ll have to change the plan over the next three months."

OL Brett Jones continues transition from CFL to NFL by Dan Salomone (Giants.com)

"“Coming from the Canadian game, I was able to see lots of differences,” Jones told Giants.com. “I know what I have to work on now. There’s definitely a lot for me to work on, but these practices are great for me and I really enjoyed it.”"

Injury Update: Will Beatty undergoes successful surgery  by Michael Eisen (Giants.com)

"In 2014, Beatty played in every game for the third consecutive season and started all 16 games for the second year in a row. His streak of 46 consecutive starts is the second-longest on the team among current players, trailing only Eli Manning’s 167 starts in a row."

5 players to watch at Giants OTAs by Dan Solamone (Giants.com)

"The Giants have decisions to make over the coming weeks and months, but one thing is for certain: they believe Flowers has the “potential, the toughness, the smarts and the competitiveness to be a franchise left tackle,” according to vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross. After getting his feet wet during rookie minicamp earlier this month, Flowers will now be thrown in the deep end with the veterans."
