facebooktwitterreddit

The New York Giants have gotten a very efficient start from their highly paid quarterback, Eli Manning. Manning is making good decisions, completing a healthy percentage of his passes and is spreading the ball around to the Giants weapons. While the Giants offense hasn’t been spectacular it has been solid due to the play of Manning.

Let’s face it, the Giants offense is completely dependent on Manning. The Giants have gotten solid runs from their three running backs but the running game hasn’t been consistently good. The Giants are averaging just 3.5 yards per rush and average the 24th most rushing yards per game. There is a lot of pressure on the arm of the Giants long time quarterback.

Manning hasn’t put up gaudy numbers. The Giants average the 19th most passing yards in the NFL. What Manning may lack in flash he is making up with efficiency. He is keeping the Giants on the field and getting them into scoring position even if it just adds up to three points.

Manning has completed 62.9 percent of his passes this season. He has only one interception and has seven touchdowns. Another stat that shows his sneaky efficiency is his six rushing attempts for 29 yards. He isn’t a runner but he knows when it is time to steal some cheap yards with his legs.

Manning isn’t forcing passes to Odell Beckham, on the contrary he is giving everyone in the offense a chance to shine when they are the open receiver. Manning has completed a pass to 10 different players this season. Beckham has 24 receptions, which leads the team but it is clear that Manning trust his other options. Larry Donnell and Rueben Randle have been called upon a good bit this season. Shane Vereen and Rashad Jennings are also contributing to the passing game.

Manning has been a very solid quarterback for the Giants. He is taking care of the football, and he is making good decisions in the passing game. We are still hoping that the Giants offense will crank it to a whole different level this season, but you cannot deny to stability Manning gives to this team.
