New York Giants rookie wide receiver Sterling Shepard was all the rage out of training camp in August. Before he’d even played an NFL game, Shepard was on everyone’s all-everything rookie team. Sleeper fantasy football pick? Sure. Rookie of the year candidate? Why not? Pro Bowler? Sign him up.

Shepard After Two Weeks

Well, we finally have a sample size, and he’s really as good as advertised. Really, really good. The sample size is still small, but it is something. That’s much more than we had before we anointed him in August to begin with.

Through the Giants first two regular season games, Shepard has been more reliable than – dare I say it – Odell Beckham. Speaking to NJ.com after the game, Beckham predicted Shep would be the NFL Rookie of the Year.

He scored his first TD in his NFL debut against the Dallas Cowboys last week. Shepard topped that Sunday against the Saints with his first 100-yard receiving game. He caught all eight of his targets for 117 yards, including four huge 3rd-down conversions.

More from NY Giants News

Shepard has caught an extremely efficient 11 of 12 targets on the young season. He is the only Giant receiver who has yet to drop a pass.

Shepard was a Week 1 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week nominee after scoring at Dallas, and his strong showing against the Saints might earn him the award in Week 2.
