Former Giants CB Terrell Thomas to Join Seahawks
By Zac Andrews
Terell Thomas the Seahawk?
On Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Caplan and FOX Sports1’s Mike Garafolo reported that former Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas will be agreeing to terms with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Giants selected Thomas in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft with the 63rd overall pick. In 2005 while at USC, he injured his right knee in a game versus Arkansas. Thomas would go on to have surgery on his knee and missed the remainder of his sophomore season. Thomas recovered from this first surgery to play as USC’s starting right cornerback for his junior and senior seasons in which he earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors both years.

In 2010, Thomas’ third year as a Giant, an injury to Aaron Ross forced Thomas in a starting role opposite from Corey Webster. Ross recovered from his injury following the Giants’ bye week, but Thomas held onto the starting job. He finished the season with a team-high 5 interceptions and 21 passes defended.
Terrell Thomas again suffered injuries to his ACL in pre-season of 2011 and during training camp of 2012. Both times he was placed on injured-reserve, a display of faith by the Giants that Thomas would recover and again contribute. Thomas returned to the field for the 2013 season in which he played in all sixteen games (his first full season since 2010) and recorded 67 tackles, 1 interception, and 8 passes defended. During the offseason following the 2013 season, the Giants declined to re-sign Thomas.
Thomas’ leadership was widely recognized by his teammates and his story is inspiring to say the least. His presence should be valuable to the Seahawks locker room, but he will have to fight for a roster spot on an already stacked secondary unit. His best shot to make the team is likely as a back-up nickel corner. All of us at GMEN HQ wish Thomas success in his new opportunity in Seattle, provided that success does not come against the New York Football Giants. Good luck, Terrell.
