The New York Giants offensive line has been a disaster over the course of the last few seasons. Mainly, because of their transition of older lineman like David Diehl, Chris Snee, and others to a younger generation of lineman. It’s just the cycle of life in any sport. A healthy Geoff Schwartz can fix this disaster.

This team for years under Tom Coughlin had a great amount of chemistry on the offensive front. Although, the Giants have spent a 2nd-round pick or higher on 4 of their 5 starting offensive lineman, chemistry seems to still be in question.
The Giants made their living off of undrafted and mid-to-late round draft picks in both free agency and their own draft to build an offensive line that lasted as a group for years. That group was full of Shaun O’Hara’s, Rich Suebert’s, and David Diehl’s. All of whom brought a grit and toughness that stabilized one of the league’s best offensive lines for years.
2014 free agent pickup Geoff Schwartz, is a man very much like a Giants lineman of the past. He was a late-round draft pick that worked his way into the starting lineup in Carolina, Minnesota and Kansas City.
Being a 7th-round pick, that chip and grit has always been on his shoulder from day one. His veteran leadership and demeanor is perfect for a young group of Giant lineman who have immense talent as top draft choices.
Unfortunately, Schwartz’s impact was limited by a foot injury in 2014 which led to him starting in only 2 games. With the potential of a full season ahead of him – barring injury – I only see him vastly improving this offensive line, especially as a run blocker.
There are two things that directly relate to the success of the New York Giants: keeping Eli Manning upright and giving him a run game. Schwartz being healthy and productive will go along way in helping that cause.
If I have to watch another shuffle of backups at the guard position I’m going to throw up. It’s time to build a strong consistent unit on the offensive line. The Giants need him in the lineup if they want any consistent success on the offensive line.
