I think the Giants are going to compete for a Wild Card seed. The team is dramatically improved from their 6-10 debacle that was the 2014 season. The defensive line should be stronger, the linebacker corps are a little stronger and the secondary is improved as well. We know the Giants can put up some points offensively but the big questions are revolving the defense. With an improved defense, the Giants should be much better in 2015. But how will the Falcons fair in the new season?
CS: How do you see the Falcons fairing in 2015?
FB: The Falcons will make good progress, but there’s still a lot of work to do to get anywhere near the Super Bowl in the coming years. Quinn’s philosophy and some nice offseason additions will help the defense improve. The schedule is generally kind, too. Of course, we don’t know for sure how good each team will be, but the Falcons will be pleased they are facing the Titans and Jaguars this year and not the Seahawks and Packers. The NFC South will be wide open again and the Falcons could sneak into the playoffs on nine or ten wins with a division win. From there? I have no idea.
CS: Can Matt Ryan get the Falcons back to the playoffs; and over the hump?
FB: I think so. Matt Ryan will need to be helped by his defense, though. They simply weren’t good enough in 2014 and it wiped out the offenses’ good work. For the Falcons to move forward, the defense needs to catch up with the offense. If that happens, Ryan can absolutely lead the team deep into the playoffs at some point in the coming years.
I want to thank Freddie Boston of Blogging Dirty for his time. He gave a lot of really good insight on the Falcons who the Giants play in the second week of the 2015 season.
