New York Giants: Trade For Alex Boone In The Cards?

The NFL is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world. Year after year teams continuously find new ways to make the sport even crazier. It seems that 2015 is the year of trades because there were some blockbuster deals made this offseason. The New York Giants should join the party by trading for San Francisco 49ers’ offensive tackle Alex Boone.

Alex Boone is one of the most underrated offensive linemen in the NFL. He has one year left on his contract, so the 49ers could be looking to get something out of him. They are in desperate needs of help on both sides of the ball, so stocking up on draft picks or key players wouldn’t hurt.

The Giants would be the optimal trading partners. They recently lost their starting left tackle Will Beatty. Beatty was a key piece to the offensive line and if the Giants don’t address this issues now, they could be in a lot of trouble. Boone would fit in perfectly to the offensive line. At the moment, he’s the starting right guard for the 49ers.

Even though the Giants are in more desperate needs for a tackle, I think they are content on some level with Ereck Flowers playing left tackle. He was eventually going to move over to that spot anyway. However, Beatty’s injury quickly ruined the plans and the reshuffling of the line has to begin.

Boone could slip into playing right guard for the Giants. That would leave Justin Pugh at right tackle, Weston Richburg at center, Geoff Schwartz at left guard and Flowers at left tackle. All of a sudden, the Giants’ offensive line looks whole again. That line doesn’t sound too bad at all. Dare I say, it actually sounds above average?

Boone is a highly underrated player. He managed to really get his game on track after struggling the past couple of years. Like Flowers, Boone is a nasty and dirty kind of offensive lineman. Believe it or not the Giants’ offensive line could use a bit of that.

If the Giants don’t make a move for Boone, they will be stuck with John Jerry at right guard. Jerry wouldn’t do much to help the Giants and isn’t really capable of starting for a full season. Boone also comes in very cheap. He’s set to make only 3.4 million this offseason. Rumors have been circulating that Boone is unhappy with his team, so it is likely that he gets traded to the 49ers can look like they got something out of him.
