New York Giants: Landon Collins Projection

facebooktwitterreddit

Landon Collins seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is going to be the anchor of the New York Giants’ defense. They have a glaring need for a starting safety now that Antrel Rolle is gone. Collins has some very big shoes to fill and he will manage to do just that.

The Alabama product is supposed to be one of the most pro-ready players in the entire 2015 NFL draft. Scouts raved about him, but the safety position seemed to be too undervalued in this years’ draft. Collins was a victim of that and fell to the second round. Now it’s time for him to prove some of his doubters wrong.

Collins is coming into Giants’ training camp to be the guaranteed starting strong safety. Collins is the most talented safety on the roster. He is a hard hitter, reads plays properly, and is already assuming a role as a leader on the defense. These are all qualities that Rolle had, so it seems that Reese made the right choice in Collins.

It’s fair to say that Collins will have a breakout season in 2015. He will be spearheading the new face and look of the Giants’ defense. Steve Spagnuolo will find the perfect way to use him and will make the most of his strengths.

Collins will put up numbers with some of the top safeties in the league, including Jarius Byrd and Eric Weddle. Collins will rack up 80 combined tackles, one sack, and four interceptions in 2015. Those are some pretty good stats for a rookie safety. I talked about how he has the qualities of Rolle but he also reminds me of a safety by the name of Kam Chancellor.
