2. Comfortable Familiarity

The Giants offensive coordinator was the quarterbacks coach in Green Bay when James Jones was there. The Giants signing suggests that McAdoo and Jones have a comfortable familiarity with each other. Jones knows what to expect from McAdoo, and will pick up the offense as if he never left it. McAdoo knows what got the most out of Jones. It is a really good situation to be in.

While McAdoo wasn’t the offensive coordinator, he runs an offense very much like Mike McCarthy does in Green Bay. And while Eli Manning isn’t Aaron Rodgers, Jones certainly gets a step up from the young Derek Carr. This is a mutually beneficial reunion.

I don’t think ending up with a McCarthy disciple was a coincidence for Jones. I think he wanted two things in a new employer. First he wanted a system similar to Green Bay’s and secondly he wanted a quarterback. The Giants check both boxes off on this one.
