The New York Giants didn’t look like they were the strongest team in the NFL last week in their preseason opener, but that’s okay. The Giants have only played one preseason game, there is time to get everything on the right track.
That’s just about the only good news when you talk about the Giants right now. With a few really troubling injuries already mounting up, the precarious position the team is in with Jason Pierre-Paul and a disappointing showing in their first preseason game perspective is crucially important.

If we are being honest with our selves the Giants probably aren’t winning the Super Bowl this season. There are too many drastic areas of need for a Super Bowl run to be likely. The Giants have made a habit of magical runs from the underdog position, so you will have to stay glued to the action this season.
The Giants need to take things one week at a time. That is a sentence a sports writer doesn’t like to use. After all my job is to give you a never ending supply of opinion, analysis on Giants news and valuable insight into what makes this team tick. It behooves me to blow everything way out of proportion.
But I’m not going to do that, because in the game of football it is about getting better each week. It is about paying attention to the little things that add up; it is about the process and the work more than it is about the spoils of victory. The Giants just need to get better each and every week.
This is the second week of the preseason. The starters will be expected a slightly heavier workload in this exhibition game. Last week the Giants gave us no hope towards the immediate future so this week any sign of hope is a step in the right direction.
The Giants don’t have forever to get on the right track. Losses add up fast and furiously in the regular season; each week is a chance to get in the right side of the win-loss record. But it is the preseason. The Giants need to give themselves something to build off of tonight against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will have to build upon that all season long.
If the Giants are going to have a playoff trip earning season, the Giants must build the foundation now in the preseason, where the lessons you learn in defeat don’t cost you anything.
