Peter Vitella, Staff Writer:

The New York Giants have plenty of holes on the defensive side of the ball but the offense should be a strong unit. The Giants can be an improved unit. I always make my preseason and mid season picks and despite being a Giants fan I have them on the outside looking in. I have the Giants sitting at 9-7 second place. I have the Giants two games back of the division winner Eagles and one game back of a wild card spot.

The only reason I have the Giants sitting where they do is because I just can’t trust the defense. I don’t know if Jason Pierre Paul will play. I think he will but you have to question if he will be effective and when he can return. The defensive backfield has had plenty of injuries and you have to see that they can hold teams down. The offense can be a high scorer just like the Saints and Falcons where both teams defenses where so bad they had bad records.

Last year the Giants had a strong offensive team. Eli Manning had a 30 touchdown , 14 interception season. Even with his great year the Giants could only muster 6 wins. Odell Beckham Jr , Victor Cruz , Shane Vereen , Rashad Jennings and others should lead a loaded offensive team.

I believe the Giants can be a playoff team but they will have to make strides on defense and have to protect Ei Manning. As of now I have them coming up just a little short. I have them at 9 wins just missing the playoffs if they can push it to 10 wins they will be in.
