The Giants Have Greater Needs:

The Giants have bigger needs than the strong safety position. They have Collins at this position and Brandon Merriweather as a back up. If the Giants were considering a trade for a free safety, I would be more on board. The Giants have needs all over their roster.

The offensive line is a disaster waiting to happen. The linebacker position remains worrisome. The Giants could use cornerback help as well. The point is that Chancellor wouldn’t solve all their problems but he would cost more than any other solution. There is very little pragmatic about the Giants trading for Chancellor.

The Giants should absolutely scour the waiver wire and look for a player they can bring in to help this team. They should absolutely try to win this season. That being said they need to have some long-term planning in their decision making and they need to think practically. Trading for Chancellor wouldn’t be practical.
