Vereen had eight receptions in the week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He had 76 yards in that game. Vereen had 4 receptions for 46 yards against the Cowboys in week one. Those yards add up and have helped the Giants stay on the field on some critical third downs.
Vereen has been a big play machine so far this season. In week 1 he had a 19 yard reception. In week 2 his best highlight was a 37 yard reception where he showed his great ability in the open field. He also had a 12 yard rushing attempt. Vereen is certainly paying off for the Giants. In an 0-2 start he is one of the bright spots on this team.
Vereen has more receptions and receiving yards than any other running back in the NFL, including Darren Sproles who has 1 less catch but over 30 less yards. The rushing numbers aren’t the prettiest things you will see in the world, but Vereen is who he is. If the Giants continue to use his skillset correctly they will get big time results from him.
Vereen has tremendous fantasy football value in points per reception leagues. Against the Falcons he got 17.5 fantasy football points in my PPR Yahoo league. He scored 10 points in week one. Vereen is a suitable player to put in the flex position and even on some weeks your running back 2. In reality and in fantasy, Vereen has shown to be quite valuable.
