The New York Giants are a team that needs a week six win very badly. With a win the Giants would go to 4-2 and would have full control over a NFC East division full of underachievers. If the Giants lose they fall right back into a three way race with the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. There is a lot on the line tonight in Philadelphia, which has been a city of horrors for the Giants lately.
The Giants have a lot of momentum going. Their offense has started to put up the kind of numbers we all knew they were capable of. The offensive line has been the surprise of the season and in a very good way. The run defense ranks near the top of the NFL (even if the Giants pass defense is problematic.
The Giants cannot afford to lose all of that momentum; momentum which they have very much earned. The Giants put themselves into an 0-2 hole to start the season and they faced a cross roads. They could either sink into their despair or they could man up and keep the ship afloat. The Giants manned up and deserve a lot of credit for that.
Now the Giants have a chance to take their ship full speed ahead. A loss won’t sink the Giants season but it will put them into much murkier waters. I have stretched this nautical metaphor about as far as it will go but you get the point. The Giants have a legitimate chance to prove to the NFL that they are contenders. They have a legitimate chance to start controlling their own destiny as a team.
There is a lot of football left to be played but this is easily the most pivotal moment in the Giants season. If they lose this game digging themselves out of their 0-2 mess may have been a wasted effort. This is what I believe to be a make or break moment. The Giants can either creep through murky waters or go full speed ahead. The choice is the Giants. They have been the better team this season and if they decide to play their best football they should be expected to win.
