The New York Giants fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in quite a horrible fashion. The Giants seemed totally unmotivated and couldn’t get any rhythm going on offense. One of the key culprits was the Giants’ offensive line mightily struggling.
The Giants’ offensive line may have put up the worst performance so far this season. Eli Manning didn’t have a second to breathe. The pass protection constantly collapsed and as a result caused lackluster play from Manning. He passed for 189 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.
On the opening drive of the game, the Giants came out swinging and drove down the field. Manning hooked up with Beckham and drew first blood on the Eagles. That series was the only bright spot in the entire game for the Giants, which is pretty sad.
The halt on offense didn’t just affect the passing game, but the running game as well. The Giants’ running backs could find no space against a middle of the pack Eagles’ defense. Again, offensive line is key to winning and the Giants acted as if they didn’t even have one this game.
The constant three an outs on the Giants’ offense kept the defense on the field for most of the game. Believe it or not, the Giants’ defense didn’t look that horrible. They managed to create turnovers and gave the Giants’ offense ample opportunity to capitalize on the Eagles’ mistakes.
The defense being forced to be on the field so much caused the unit to suffer from severe fatigue. Yes, the Giants’ offense was that terrible in this game. Another part of the issue could have been the minor injuries to Odell Beckham and Rueben Randle. Randle looked like he was having a lot of trouble running his routes because of his injury.
The Giants will look to bounce back in another huge divisional game against the Dallas Cowboys in week seven.
