The Pass Rush

With all the ambiguity surrounding the Jason Pierre-Paul situation in training camp, I didn’t think the Giants’ All-Pro would ever play another down.

With that expectation in mind heading into the season, I still didn’t think their pass rush would be as poor as it is. The Giants have gotten nothing out of guys I thought would be sneaky pass rushers—George Selvie, Markus Kuhn, Jay Bromley. They’ve essentially been invisible.

But really, the disappointment lies with the starting front four. Johnathan Hankins, who racked up seven sacks in 2014, watched 2015 come to an early end on Monday when he was placed on Injured Reserve with a torn pectoral, and he ended up with zero sacks in the 2015 campaign. And off the edges, Robert Ayers has battled injuries while Damontre Moore has shown he can’t play disciplined football.

The front four as a whole has disappointed immensely, and even with the return of Jason Pierre-Paul things still seem along the d-line. Unless Spags finds some sort of formula to make these guys more effective, or if they just start to play better, this will stay the most disappointing part of the Giants’ season all year.
