Hakeem Nicks Can Learn The Offense

Given how Hakeem Nicks has performed on the field the last couple of seasons, I don’t think he’ll have a particularly great impact on the field, though I do think he’ll play an important role.

Part of getting acclimated to that role is learning the new offense in which he’s playing. When he was a Giant, he starred in Kevin Gilbride’s scheme, not Ben McAdoo’s. He also isn’t the same player so many fans knew him as—a fast, strong receiver who can outrun defenders while also overpowering them.

I still think with his frame and hands he’ll have the ability to make some of those tough catches over defenders, but he’s going to have a different role in this offense than he used to… that’s if he can firmly establish himself in the offense. The bye week will be a useful time for him to find that role, and hopefully (hopefully!) master that role before Week 12.
