New York Giants: Are They A Year Away From Being Great?

After finishing 7-9 and 6-10 the past two seasons, it was clear that the New York Giants had to rebuild. The Giants had problem areas all over the field last season. After much work this offseason the Giants season has sunk into a 5-7 result. Thanks to the weakness of the NFC East, the Giants still have a shot to get in the postseason. The Giants however aren’t contenders this season. Is it possible that the Giants are another strong offseason away from being a great team?

The Giants have some wonderful pieces to build around. Eli Manning is a franchise quarterback who you can win a Super Bowl with. Odell Beckham is a superstar player at the wide receiver position. The Giants have young talent that has great potential for growth. Ereck Flowers is a left tackle that could develop into something special. Landon Collins and Devon Kennard are two young studs on the defensive side of the ball.

The Giants still need to sure up the offensive line. They need to find some offensive weapons that can take the pressure off of Odell Beckham. The Giants need to get a free safety and improve their pass rush. These are all things that they can do in a productive offseason. The Giants had too much to accomplish in one offseason. With a strong draft and a few key signings this team could find the formula for success.

The Giants are better than they were a season ago. They clearly have a vision for what kind of football team they want to be. The west coast offense and Eli Manning work in perfect harmony. The Giants are a few puzzle pieces away from being a really good team. The Giants are on the right track, they just aren’t there yet.

In the meantime the Giants must try to steal a playoff berth from the weakest division in the NFC. The Giants have to take care of their business in the next four games. Success at the end of this season could go a long way for the teams’ confidence next season. It would also be a great experience for the Giants young talent, all they know is losing.
