New York Giants’ fans the world over felt their hearts jump into their throats last week, when it was revealed Odell Beckham, Jr. was taken off the field after colliding with Janoris Jenkins.

More from NY Giants News

Head coach Ben McAdoo immediately downplayed the situation, but it did little to quell the legion of concerned Giants’ fans and fantasy footballers.  It was only two seasons ago that Beckham, in his rookie campaign, was sidelined for the entire preseason and the first four games of the regular season with what was thought to be a minor hamstring injury.

In today’s much talked about, full contact practice, Beckham returned and put the issue to rest in spectacular fashion.

Beckham had, by all accounts, a great day and showed no ill-effects or limitations in his first full practice session all week.

Rookie cornerback Eli Apple was just as impressive on the other side of the ball. Apple had his best day of training camp thus far, winning one-on-one drills, and breaking up passes to Victor Cruz.

There have  been rumblings of concern about the development of Apple, which was intensified by the signing of veteran Leon Hall on Friday.  While the rookie is not out of the woods just yet, it is encouraging to see him consistently make plays against talented receivers, especially while avoiding penalties.

"“There was tight man-to-man coverage and he was physical out there and he forced guys to the sideline and boundary and it left the quarterback no room to throw the ball, so that was exciting to see.”  – Coach McAdoo on Eli Apple"

It’s no secret that Beckham, one of the NFL’s top wideouts, is critical to the Giants’ success.  His homerun speed stretches the field and attracts the safety, which opens up opportunities for others and benefits the running game.  There’s no question about his ability and the top priority is to get him to the regular season healthy, even at the expense of some missed preseason games and practice reps if need be.

Contrarily, Apple needs all the reps he can get.  As long as he’s on the field, he will continue to improve and Saturday’s practice provided the most promising glimpse of what could be in store for Giants fans.
