New York Giants: Running Down The Offseason Wish List
Sign Brandon Marshall
Prior to the 2015 season, the New York Jets acquired Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears for a fifth-round NFL draft pick. With the Jets now entering full rebuilding mode, they have decided to cut Marshall.
Going on 33, Marshall’s time in the league is waning, as are his chances to reach the NFL postseason for the first time.
Marshall is a member of the television show Inside the NFL on Showtime. This show airs in New York, which implies that Marshall values being close to the location. How do you think he would feel if he didn’t even have to move and could contend for a title?
Pretty ideal, right?
The Giants run “11-personnel” more than just about any other team in the NFL. “11-personnel” means that there are three wide receivers lined up in the formation. With the release of Victor Cruz, the Giants are in the market for another wide receiver.
With Odell Beckham Jr. on one side and Sterling Shepard now handling the slot, the perfect compliment would be a big-bodied possession receiver to play opposite from OBJ.
Marshall is all of that and more, even if he has lost a step or two.
There’s no telling what the market for Marshall will look like, but I’d expect the Giants to face competition for his services. The money demands shouldn’t be crazy, plus the New York advantage could prove vital.
Hopefully something in the range of two years and $10 to $12 million can get it done.
